The Basics

(Or skip to Advanced Tips)

So now that you know what it is (or if you don't, then go here), you're ready to learn how to play instead of looking like an idiot while really-really-good people laugh at you---but don't worry, we've all been there.

The first and definitely most important part of playing is having rhythm. When a song comes on, you should be able to recognize the beat or else you're going to fail miserably. If you listen to music a lot or have some musical experience then you probably won't have a problem with this. However, don't freak out if you don't get it the first time you play; it's normal. But when you're playing rfor the 3rd time in a row and still can't seem to stay in step with the music, then that's when you're gonna get made fun of. You can fix this problem by simply listening to some music at home and trying to tap your foot to the beat.
Important Tip #1: The steps go with the music . What an amazing discovery!!!
Don't beleive me? Well...you should. Just trust me on this: when the arrows go across the top of the screen, it's going with the music. It's not just some random times those crazy creators decided to do and see if we can follow it. This will save you a lot of embarassment.

Let's start out with how to choose the right song for you. If you haven't played many times then you definitely want to stay on the Basic or Easy level. Then when looking for a song, notice the footprints in the bottom right corner of the screen. Those help you out by letting you know how hard songs are. The more feet, the harder the song. So for your first few times you probably want to stick with 1 or 2 feet, then when you can do those well then move on to 3.

There are a few mistakes that beginners usually make that I'll go over in this section. First, try not to return your feet to the middle of the platform after every step. It doesn't look natural or experienced. It's okay to move around a little...it's safe! Don't worry! You can keep your feet on other arrows without being pentalized.

Next, don't get worried when arrows start coming more often and faster. Just keep your feet moving and anticipate what's coming next and you'll do fine.
